“Not to read it would be un-Australian”!
For those interested in William Bligh, the man, whatever historic record hasn’t already been corrected about Bligh in Conspiracy on the Bounty is boldly laid bare in David Hunt’s popular witty book, Girt — the Unauthorized History of Australia. Doing away with euphemisms, Hunt has cited material or described Bligh as a man suffering from ‘Short man Syndrome’, a brute ‘generally detested by high, low, rich, and poor’, and ‘a complete and utter Bastard to the end’. While Hunt’s book is not a book for Blighaholic proponents, it’s a fun sweep under Bligh’s ‘dirty rug’ for other readers.
David Hunt, author of the bestseller Girt, insists that Conspiracy on the Bounty is “a must for all Bountymaniacs, Fletcherphiles and Bligh-haters, and for those who have a passing interest in British colonial and naval history. A well-balanced blend of drama and action that’s more Trevor Howard than Mel Gibson.”
Awards for Girt include:

Shortlisted, 2014 ABA Nielsen BookData Bookseller’s Choice Award.
